Gauteng police opened a culpable homicide case after a police van collided with a private vehicle in Sunnyside, Tshwane on Tuesday, 21 January.
Two suspects in the police van died during the crash.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “Five police officers who were in the police van sustained injuries and were taken to the nearest medical care centre for treatment,” he said.
The police van collided with a Hyundai Atos while the cops were transporting three suspects, who had just been detained for motor vehicle theft.
“Two suspects died at the scene, while the third one was transported to a medical care centre for treatment,” said Masondo.

The private vehicle’s driver was unharmed.
According to Masondo, the detained suspects were found in possession of various sets of vehicle registration plates and car jammers.
