This season’s MTN8 competition promises to bring us blockbuster action going forward with the ‘big 3’ having booked semi-finals spots.

AmaZulu and Cape Town City kicked off the tournament on Saturday at the Athlone Stadium where Usuthu edged the Citizens 2-1 to secure their spot in the semi-finals.

The KZN club was later on in the day joined by Orlando Pirates who beat Royal AM 2-1 at a packed Chatsworth Stadium.

On Sunday, 120 minutes failed to separate Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs as they eventually went to penalty shootout where Amakhosi won 4-3 to advance to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, MTN8 defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns overcame their cross-town rivals SuperSport United 2-0 to qualify for the last 4.

The MTN8 semi-final draw will take place on Monday, 29 August.

The draw will be conducted LIVE on the popular television sports show, Extra Time, which airs on SuperSport PSL channel (202) from 20:30.
