A taxi driver was left critically injured following a collision on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Maidstone, Tongaat – KZN today (Monday).
The incident involved a Toyota Quantum taxi and an Isuzu truck.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on scene at approximately 09:59 and established that the Isuzu truck was exiting a nearby service station when it was struck on the right-hand side by the taxi.
Witnesses reported that the taxi was travelling at a high speed and failed to brake before impact.
One (1) witness stated that he had been following the taxi shortly before the crash and observed it moving at excessive speed.
The force of the collision left the taxi driver trapped inside the vehicle.

The Ethekwini Fire Department responded and used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, who was in a critical condition at the scene.
There were no passengers in the taxi at the time of the accident.
