Dreams of seeing Siyabonga Mnisi graduate have been shattered after the minor sadly passed away after eating chips he bought from the Spaza shop.
The five-year-old from Diepkloof, Soweto was meant to graduate on Friday, 22 November, but died on Wednesday, 20 November after he allegedly ate snacks bought from a foreign-owned spaza shop.
Siyabonga was with his three friends when they bought the snacks, who are currently in hospital receiving treatment while one is in a critical condition in ICU.
It was reported that after eating the snacks, the boys, who allegedly live in the same yard, were playing together when they started to show symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Siyabonga’s father, Samuel said he received a call on his way from work informing him that his son wasn’t feeling well and that the family was taking him to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
Samuel said he received another call a few minutes later that left him shattered.
“It was bad when I got to the hospital. My son was dead. I have nothing to say. I can’t believe what happened.”
“I was expecting to see him on Friday during his graduation. I had bought everything and paid for everything and now he’s no more,” he said.
Samuel, who didn’t live with his son, said he’s angry as this is not the first time a child dies due to alleged food poisoning. He said he feels the kids’ deaths are orchestrated.
“Why is it that they’re targeting kids and not us the elderly?” he said.
The shop where the kids allegedly bought the snacks has since been closed. Expired food was reportedly found, which the police confiscated.
