Limpopo hitmaker, Shebeshxt’s bail appeal has been dismissed, leaving the star stuck behind bars.

The Polokwane High Court delivered its judgment on Friday, 9 January with acting Judge A.J. Burnett throwing out the appeal in a brief ruling that lasted less than a minute.

Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlohonolo Katlego Chauke (30), approached the high court on Wednesday, 31 December, hoping to overturn an earlier decision that denied him bail.

The Rato Laka hitmaker was initially refused bail on 17 December 2025 by the Polokwane Magistrates Court, where senior Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi ruled that he should remain in custody.

The musician is facing nine charges, including three counts of attempted murder linked to an alleged October 2025 shooting in Ladanna, Polokwane.

Two men, Petros Ralefatane and Tebelelo Mafagane, were reportedly shot and seriously injured during the incident.

His bail application was heard under a schedule six offence after his previous charges were added.

Handing down judgment, Burnett said the appellant failed to poke holes in the state’s case.

“The appellant did not successfully challenge the respondent’s case, especially on the evidence relating to previous convictions that were withdrawn due to interference with witnesses,” said Burnett.

She added that this was fatal to the appeal.

“It must be accepted that there is a danger that the appellant will interfere with witnesses in this matter,” he said.

Burnett further stressed the seriousness of schedule six bail applications.

“Schedule six bail applications are difficult. The burden of proof required by accused persons must be taken seriously and respected.”

“The appellant has failed to prove exceptional circumstances. The appeal is dismissed,” she ruled.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the ruling.

Limpopo NPA spokeswan, Malabi-Dzangi said “We have been opposing his bail.”

Outside court, some of Shebeshxt’s fans reacted with disappointment.

“We are not happy. We are disappointed. He is also a human being and has responsibilities, including his new child. South Africa must stand up for Shebe. I am worried about him,” said Mahlodi Bopape (41) from Ga-Chuene.

Shebeshxt remains behind bars and is expected back in the dock on 18 February as investigations into his case continue.
