Drama hit the Polokwane Magistrates Court after controversial Limpopo artist Lehlohonolo Katlego Chauke (30), popularly known as Shebeshxt, was denied bail.

The gallery, which was full to capacity, expressed sadness when the judgment was handed down.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday, 17 December, by senior Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi, who said the star failed to convince the court he deserved freedom.

Shebeshxt’s bail hearing kicked off on Monday, 8 December, where investigating officer Warrant Officer Phaladi Makola from the Limpopo Investigating Unit strongly opposed bail.

Makola told the court the musician is always in trouble with the law.

But Shebeshxt’s legal team, led by Advocate Isaac Mokgopo and Lot Ramusi, begged the court to release him, arguing that his freedom would not disturb public order.

They said that keeping him behind bars would cause serious financial losses, claiming he’s one of the most booked artists in the country.

However, magistrate Netshiozwi was not convinced.

“The court is satisfied that the accused has failed to prove exceptional circumstances for his release on bail. The bail application is therefore denied,” he ruled.

Shebeshxt, who did not show any emotions during the ruling, will remain behind bars.

The case was postponed to 18 February 2026 for further investigations.

Reacting to the ruling, Limpopo Artist Movement provincial chairman Mpoza Mashabela said the fight is far from over.

“This is painful, especially during the festive season. We are disappointed, but we will continue fighting for Shebe’s freedom. We are taking this matter to the High Court,” he said.
