Rushwin Dortley is a South African professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Cape Town Spurs in the Premier Soccer League.
The 22-year-old joined Kaizer Chiefs after his former side Cape Town Spurs were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Early life
Rushwin Dortley was born on the 2nd of May 2002 in one of the well-known cities Cape Town.
He started his football career at the development team of Cape Town Spurs back in the days when it was still called Ajax Cape Town.
Club career
Playing several seasons in the National First Division, Dortley gained national attention when Kaizer Chiefs reportedly bid 3 million rand to sign him.
He was an interesting prospect as a left-footed central defender.
Following reports that “the player’s representatives have decided to rather secure a move to Europe”, Dortley went on trial with FC Nordsjælland in the summer of 2022.
International career
Dortley has captained South Africa U-23. On 26 June 2024, he made his debut for the senior squad in a 2024 COSAFA Cup match, scoring in a 1–1 draw with Mozambique.
Rushwin Dortley Signs With Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs secured the signing of defender Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs, the Motsepe Foundation club announced.
Dortley, 22, has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in the country since breaking into the Spurs first team back in 2020.
With over 100 first-team appearances in the top two tiers of South African football, Dortley has established himself as an experienced campaigner despite his young age.
The likes of SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC made approaches to Spurs for the defender who captained the South Africa national team at the recent Cosafa Cup.
However, Chiefs have managed to swoop in to win the race for his services, for the player who attracted interest from Major League Soccer, Israel and Denmark over the past few months.
Dortley now bolsters Chiefs defence as a natural left-footed centre-back that adds competition to Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and national team level, having caught the eye of Hugo Broos in recent months.
Salary
Even though it was revealed that Kaizer Chiefs paid a whooping R6 Million, however, it was not revealed by the club how much he will be earning per month.
According to some reports, Rushwin Dortley will be earning around R100 000 per month at Amakhosi.
