Police in KwaZulu-Natal have noted a social media buzz about a woman who accused police of inaction after she reported a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm against her boyfriend at Umlazi police station on Friday, 9 January 2026.

Hardly 48 hours after the case was reported, police have on Monday, 12 January 2026, arrested a 24-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged assault of his 31-year-old girlfriend and maliciously damaging her vehicle during a domestic violence related incident at V Section in Umlazi, on Friday.

It is reported that the suspect called the victim to his place to collect her belongings.

Upon arrival the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with a pipe and bit her with his teeth, whilst also assaulting her with his hands.

The victim reportedly ran back to her vehicle, and the suspect followed her and damaged the rear windscreen of the vehicle.

Police investigations also revealed that the victim is currently in hospital due to burn wounds which she allegedly suffered when she was setting alight her boyfriend’s car, which she burnt to ashes.

Once discharged from hospital, she will face counter charges of assault and malicious damage to property.

It is worth noting that the two partners have a history of opening cases against each other. Those cases have been ventilated in court and were not necessarily of domestic violence in nature.
