Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Benson Mhlongo has found a new home.
According to FarPost, Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League outfit Kanyamazane All Stars have appointed the 41-year-old as the club’s new head coach
This comes after the side succumbed to a decision to move coach Mandla Mathaba to be the club’s technical director.
Mathaba had only taken charge of four games in the new 2022/23 season. In those two matches, Mathaba won two games and lost two in the process.
“It is with great honour to introduce and welcome our new head coach, Benson Mhlongo,” read the club’s statement.
Mhlongo will begin with his coaching duties as he prepares the team for the weekend showdown.
The new man in charge previously served as Pirates assistant coach back in the 2016/17 campaign and was the head coach of the relegated TS Sporting last season in the South African football second tier.
As a player, he also represented teams such as SuperSport United, Alexandra United, City Sharks, Wits University, Platinum Stars and Polokwane City.
He was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that participated in the 2008 African Cup of Nations. Mhlongo retired back in November 2016.
Currently, Kanyamazane are in the sixth position in Stream A of the provincial ABC League with six points, just five points behind stream leaders Fernie Battalion.
The club will play their next league fixture on Saturday, 5 November, against Sivutsa at Kamhlushwa Stadium.
The game is scheduled to start at 15:00.
Mhlongo will be expected to help the side qualify for the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs and possibly get a promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season.
