Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber says nearly R80 million has been spent in the 2024/2025 financial year, on the deportation of illegal immigrants.

He was replying to a written Parliamentary question by the Patriotic Alliance’s Millicent Mothapa.
Mothapa wanted a breakdown of the costs that the department has incurred in deporting illegal immigrants, over the past three financial years.
In the 2022/2023 financial year, more than R32 million was spent, while over R67 million was spent for the 2023/2024.

The reply also revealed that more than 113 000 people were deported during this period.
