Durban police have arrested 36 foreign nationals following several raids at stores across the city.
The operation led by the Community Safety and Liaison Department targeted shops searching for expired food items.
During the operation, police discovered stores that hired undocumented foreign nationals.
Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli is the head of Community Safety.
“I commend the work and the commitment of the police in the province of Kwazulu-Natal because 36 undocumented foreign nationals are being verified now.”
He said one of those arrested was found in possession of an illegal gun.
“An illegal gun was confiscated and the one who was in possession was arrested.”
