Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: By 10h30, more than 7000 applicants had already written a the assessment test for the 200 Trainee Provincial Inspector posts at the Royal Showground in Pietermaritzburg.
We have received more than 34 000 applications. This is a clear indication of an interest to be part of the highly energetic and efficient Road Traffic Inspectorate.

We are encouraged by the show of unity as parents, relatives, friends and community members all rallying behind all applicants who want to be part of building a prosperous KwaZulu-Natal.
Importantly, we wish to apologize to the motorists, residents, and workers who were inconvenienced this morning.
We value the support from the Umsunduzi Traffic Department and many other key stakeholders who are working with the department to minimize traffic congestion.
On 12 September 2025, we issued a statement announcing the recruitment drive of more than 278 traffic officers.
We affirmed our determination to strengthen our highly dedicated and efficient Road Traffic Inspectorate.
We are aware there is a smooth flow of applicants inside the Royal Showground with more than 7000 application having already written their test. Marshals are managing the movement of applicants.
This will undoubtedly ease the burden on Umsunduzi Traffic Department and RTI team. Both teams are working flat out to ensure that there is no congestion outside.
Apart from 200 Trainee Provincial Inspector posts, we also advertized the following posts with a separate recruitment process:
• Control Provincial Inspector | 1
• Senior Provincial Inspectors |10
• Provincial Inspectors | 67
For the trainee posts in particular and others I have mandated the Acting Head of the Department Sma Ngubo to ensure that there is a smooth recruitment process.

She has assured me that everything is being done to minimize any risks associated with this major recruitment drive.
