Manqoba Mngqithi’s agent Mike Makaab has reacted to the news of the technical team changes at Mamelodi Sundowns after his client’s role was changed from co-coach to Senior Coach.

On Monday, Sundowns confirmed via a press release that Rulani Mokwena was named the sole head coach, while Mngqithi’s role changed from co-coach to Senior Coach – the role previously held by Steve Komphela, who is now the First Team Coach.

Makaab admitted that he wasn’t part of the discussions around the technical team changes at all and he only found out about the news when Mngqithi called him to make him aware of the situation.

He gave some insights into Mngqithi’s reaction and mindset, insisting his client will continue to give his all for the club – no matter which role.

“Apparently they were called into a meeting and it was done very amicably,” he told Simtho Dladla on Gagasi FM.

“Manqoba is not upset at all.

“I’ve had a long discussion with him, as you know I’m away from the office right now, but he called me, so I returned his call today (Monday) and he’s a very sensible person and he accepts that the team hasn’t been doing well and he supports the decision management have taken.

“Manqoba is a mature person, mature and emotionally very stable. Whilst it might be disappointing, the club can be sure they will get the full support from Manqoba.”

Makaab also confirmed that Mngqithi’s contract still runs until the end of the current campaign.

“His contract ends at the end of the season,” he responded when asked about the expiry of his client’s current deal.

Sundowns are back in action on Tuesday when they face Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium at 19:30.
