Four-year-old Jerimiah Xolo was shot dead by an unknown suspect in Zwelisha – Kwazulu Natal.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Center became inundated with calls for assistance at approximately 21:31.
Callers reported that a child was shot in the head and was unresponsive.
Multiple Reaction Officers were expedited to the scene and upon arrival found a boy with a gunshot wound to his head. He was declared deceased.
Reaction Officers interviewed the father who explained that his wife and child were standing near a local tuckshop when a white car drove passed.
The mother then noticed the child fall to the ground and bleeding profusely from the head.
The child died almost immediately.
Reaction Officers interviewed the mother who was visibly traumatised.
She informed Officers that the suspects used a white light motor vehicle (make unknown) and that no gunshot was heard. The mother added that she believed that a silencer was used on the weapon.
Witnesses who were in the immediate vicinity informed Reaction Officers that no gunshots were heard but they noticed the child fall to the ground.
RUSA Officers have attended to four murders in 24 hours.
