The family members of the five people who were violently butchered at Bethany Village in Bergville, KZN, are still shaken.

They announced during the funeral service that they had disowned the accused.

Friends, family, villagers, and politicians had gathered to pay their last respects to the five victims in a heartbreaking funeral service on Saturday, 19 October.

The victims, Bheki Hadebe, Sonto Hadebe, Thulisile Hadebe, Andile Khoza, and Esihle Khoza, were brutally murdered in a domestic violence attack on Saturday, 12 October.

Other family members have been admitted to hospital with stab wounds.

A family member, Mlamli Khoza (32), has been arrested and charged with five counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Family member Casper Hadebe confirmed in an interview with Daily Sun that the family has resolved to disown the accused, Mlamli Khoza.

“This heartless accused is my nephew. We have agreed as a family that we’re permanently abandoning him. We want him to rot in jail. We have cancelled his name in our family,” he said.

He also warned the National Prosecuting Authority not to release the accused on bail.

“The family and community will take the law into their own hands. He won’t last for an hour out of custody; he will be no more. We want justice,” he said.

Resident and neighbour, Pinki Mazibuko, said the accused has no place in their village.

“We don’t want to see him in our village. He has been a violent person since his childhood. He has done so many things. He once broke my windows and door. He was always fighting with other children,” she said.

Deputy mayor of uKhahlamba Local Municipality, Nomzinyane Tshabalala, said they’ve noted the complaints of drug abuse in Bergville, which might have influenced the accused to allegedly kill his family.
