Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that Kermit Erasmus’ contract had been terminated before he joined Orlando Pirates on Deadline day.

Erasmus, 32, was announced as shock signing by the Buccaneers on Friday morning, with the club announcing ‘Romeo’ joined them on a two-year deal.

Many were left wondering whether both clubs had agreed to a transfer fee or whether Erasmus was released by Downs before his return to Orlando Stadium, with the club now confirming the latter scenario was the case.

“Mamelodi Sundowns has parted ways with Kermit Romeo Erasmus who joined the Brazilians back in October 2020,” the club stated.

“The enterprising striker’s contract was due to end in May and both parties have agreed on early termination to allow Kermit to get more game time elsewhere.

“In the two years that Kermit has been with Mamelodi Sundowns, the talented player has displayed professionalism and was always on hand to share his knowledge- and-experience with his teammates.

“Everyone at Mamelodi Sundowns would like to wish Romeo the best of luck with his future endeavours on and off the pitch.”

Erasmus made 80 appearances for the Buccaneers between 2013 and 2016, scoring 21 goals and setting up another 14, while at Masandawana he featured 43 times, netting 10 goals and assisting seven.
