Doctor Khumalo is one of the South African living legends who represented Kaizer Chiefs Football Club and also Bafana Bafana back in the days. He is also referred as ’16V’, which is his nickname.
The 55-year old was raised and became a professional football player at Kaizer Chiefs and never played for another South African soccer team, only departing for brief stints abroad.
Doctor Khumalo signed with FIFA agent Marcelo Houseman, who first brought him to Argentine club Ferro Carril Oeste for six months in 1995. Later, he played for the Columbus Crew of United States (MLS) in 1996 and 1997.
The 1990s were the pinnacle of Khumalo’s soccer career; he played on Kaizer Chiefs squads that captured three South African league championships, five knockout medals, and the 1992 South African Footballer of the Year award.
Doctor Khumalo participated in 397 league and cup games throughout his time at the club, scoring 90 goals.
