The body of seven-year-old Sqalo Phumelela Ntlooa was found in a fast-flowing river in Cato Manor after extensive search efforts to locate him on Monday.
Sqalo had gone missing Sunday evening after not returning from a hunt with three friends and several dogs in the Cato Manor Forest.
In a statement, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said the R44 helicopter had been conducting an extensive three-and-a-half-hour search for the missing boy since 10am on Monday.
His clothing, a blue T-shirt and orange pants, had been discovered by the river bank near the Albert Luthuli Hospital.
The pilot and crew searched along the river and identified a pool that could possibly be the area of drowning.
“His body was located shortly after at the bottom of the plunge pool and removed by a community member,” Balram said.
