South African well-known artist Babes Wodumo has apologised for shocking many people and singing a gospel song out of tune.
Babes, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane Maphumulo, shocked many people when she sang out of tune during her friend Pearl Mkhize’s funeral.

Her friend was laid to rest at Esikhaleni, KZN north coast, on Saturday, 13 September.
Babes, who is known for her gqom music singing skills, shocked mourners when she started a gospel song Udumo Ngolwakho and sang it completely out of tune while she was emotional and tears rolling down her face.
Her video trended on socials and left many people asking themselves many questions about how Babes, as a gqom music singer, can’t sing gospel.
Others were asking themselves if she was under the influence of alcohol, judging the way she sang and the way she kept wiping off her tears.
The 31-year-old musician from Lamontville south of Durban confirmed she was under the influence of alcohol.
The Wololo hitmaker blamed booze for putting her in a shameful situation and apologised to fans.
“I would like to apologise about what happened, it was because of booze and now I’m scared of booze.
“I did many regrettable things during that time, and became a laughingstock because of booze. I’m feeling ashamed about what happened. I’m sorry,” she said.
The singer also hosted the two-day auditions at Bat Centre in Durban from 13 to 14 September in search for new talent to form two groups of gqom, Afro-pop and soul music.
She said she was not part of the audition on Saturday, 13 September, because she had to attend the her friend Pearl Mkhize’s funeral and her manager Nondu Simelane and Wena Wodumo Entertainment and West Ink members conducted the successful auditions.
She is expected to announce the successful winners soon.
Babes is currently attending the assault case in the Durban Magistrates Court.

She is facing the case of assault after she allegedly assaulted Durban designer Philile “Philly” Mhlongo of SK Designs on 12 March 2024.
She is back in court for her trial on 25 September.
