Loyal Bloemfontein Celtic fans were not happy when businesswoman MaMkhize was in town for the Macufe Cup.

Businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize and her football team Royal AM were in Bloemfontein, Free State for the 2022 Macufe Cup on Sunday 25 September.

The team entered the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after MaMkhize purchased Bloemfontein Celtic and renamed it Royal AM.

Bloemfontein Celtic fans flocked to the Free State Stadium after MaMkhize arrived in her luxury vehicle. In a viral video posted to TikTok, fans did not hesitate to express their disappointment towards her.

In August 2021, Bloemfontein Celtics fans were left heartbroken after the club was sold to MaMkhize and renamed Royal AM.

According to KickOff, PSL chairman Irvin Khoza said although they wanted to protect the football club’s history, sustainability was an issue.

On 25 September, fans of Bloemfontein Celtics surrounded MaMkhize’s luxury car as it made its way to the Free State Stadium for the Macufe Cup.

The TikTok user who posted the video, @Phutivich-vin, claimed that fans were chasing MaMkhize away. One fan can be heard asking the Durban businesswoman “to leave”.

The TikTok video has since been viewed more than 170 000 times on TikTok.

Taking to the comments section, fans expressed that they missed Bloemfontein Celtics while one TikToker said their anger is “misdirected”.

“MaMkhize wasn’t supposed to move the team from Bloemfontein if she [the] needed support of Bloemfontein. They loved that club,” wrote @thokzin893.

“I’m a Chiefs fan but I miss Bloemfontein Celtics manje,” wrote @wandilemchunu01.

“Buying Celtics was not a problem but why did she take it away and change the name of one of the most supported teams in the country.”

“She should’ve left the team in Bloemfontein, she’d be the queen of Celtics now.”
