The University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) head coach Kwanele Kopo has provided an injury update on the former Mamelodi Sundowns Abubeker Nasir.

According to FarPost, the Ethiopian attacker Abubeker Nasir has signed for the Motsepe Foundation Championship side on a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old has failed to live up to expectations since he arrived in South Africa in 2022, even though he had a bright start to life at Sundowns.

While his career at Sundowns began brightly, his progress has since been significantly hampered by recurrent injuries.

He was subsequently loaned out to now-defunct SuperSport United last season but did not feature for the club.

Although AmaTuks have never confirmed the Ethiopian’s move to the club, there has been various speculations surrounding his future.

Following AmaTuks’ 0-0 draw with Venda FC in Thohoyandou on Saturday, Kopo confirmed that Nasir was among the players still missing because of an injury.

“We have a lot of players injured. You know you have Prince Nxumalo; he has had an operation. Two seasons ago, he was the top scorer of the league,” said Kopo.

“You have Aphelele Teto, he is injured. He is a very important winger….We have Nasir, from Ethiopia, out injured. We have had Veli Mothwa out injured.

“So we are still in a building process, but we are happy with the progress so far.”

“But we know from the way that we have played, we should have accumulated many more points than where we are. But we are happy with the process so far.”

AmaTuks are currently eighth on the log after collecting 13 points from the 10 matches they played this season. They are only six points behind Milford FC.
