This is according to the family of Themba Calvin Chauke (20), who was allegedly shot dead by his stepfather, Abraham Leshaba(57), on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, at Tambo 2 in Stinkwater, north of Tshwane.
Leshaba appeared in the Moretele Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, facing a murder charge.
The case was postponed to 24 February 2026 for a formal bail application, as the investigating officer was not available.
Themba’s sister, Pauline Chauke (27), said: “I felt heartbroken when I saw him in court, and he didn’t show any remorse. He was smiling also.”
“That gun that allegedly killed my brother must be taken away from him.” Pauline claims Leshaba tried to flee after the killing and offered her mother R10 000 to drop the charges, but her mother refused.
She added that seeing Leshaba in court brought back tears.
“Whenever we play maskandi songs, my mum cries. We still remember him. Themba loved maskandi music,” she said.

Joseph Mathebula (45), Themba’s brother-in-law, said: “We are in great pain, and this man is smiling in court. He must keep his R10 000 as it will never bring Themba back.”
Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “A case of murder was opened, and the suspect was arrested.”
