A two-month-old male infant was found deceased in Mhlasini – KZN under unclear circumstances this morning (Saturday).
The infant’s mother left the child in the care of a friend yesterday (Friday) afternoon.

She mentioned that she planned to go out and party at a local tavern.
The friend informed Reaction Officers that the baby was sleeping next to her. She found the baby unresponsive at approximately 03:00 when she attempted to feed him.
After failing to reach the mother, the friend contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.

Attempts to find the mother at her home were unsuccessful because the house was unoccupied.
Circumstances leading up to the child’s death were not immediately established.
