A Witness who was supposed to testify in a case at the Wynberg Magistrates Court has been shot and killed inside the court building.
The incident happened earlier on Tuesday, 8 April.
According to a woman who was at the court at the time of the incident, the shooting happened on the 3rd floor in the hallway.
“We were all waiting to enter court D when the incident happened. Two guys approached, and one opened fire at him, and he died at the scene,” she said.
After the incident, the woman from Philippi said people were ordered out of the court premises, and everything was postponed.
“It was scary to hear gunshots at court. I could not believe it because when we get inside the court premises, we get searched, so how did the gun get in?” said the woman.
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident, which he said is under investigation.
“Wynberg police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident at court in Church Road, Wynberg on Tuesday, 8 April 2025.”
“The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his body and was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
