74-year-old man from Mthatha has been arrested after allegedly beating his 31-year-old boyfriend to death.

The victim, Ludwe Hlalukana, was killed on Wednesday. His family says he and the elderly man were in a long-term relationship.

After the beating, the suspect went to the police claiming Hlalukana had broken into his house. But the victim’s family says this isn’t true.

“Our son would spend his nights there and we had made peace with their relationship,” the family told Scrolla.Africa.

Human rights activist Petros Majola, who is helping the family seek justice, confirmed the arrest.

The suspect will appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court.

“There are two sides to every story, we will know more as the case progresses,” Majola said.
