Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has weighed in on the booing of Amakhosi striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana.

The Burundi international suffered boos from Amakhosi fans in a DStv Premiership match against Richards Bay on Saturday afternoon in Umlazi.

The Glamour Boys’ supporters were unhappy with the 25-year-old’s performance, particularly in the second half and demanded that he is taken off.

Bimenyimana, who didn’t start in the Soweto Derby last week, was in the starting line-up against the Natal Rich Boyz, replacing Ashley Du Preez, who suffered an injury.

The lanky forward was eventually pulled out for Wandile Duba who was promoted from the reserve team this season.

Zwane says he had to take a decision to keep or substitute Bimenyimana based on how the striker responded to the fans’ harassment. He believes it’s a matter of time before the ‘Black Panther’ gets his scoring boots back.

“As coaches you always want your players to be in the right frame of mind all the time,” he said.

“And you look at him how he responded that time. Does that maybe give him a boost to say ‘you know what I’m gonna give my best until I get a goal or I’ll help the team’.

“But once you see the body language getting a little bit sloppy, then obviously that’s a sign to say let me save [substitute] him, that’s my job. You understand what I’m saying.

“Then, back to the drawing boards or training again and we work on him. He’s a good player, he’ll do something, and he’ll help us going forward.

“I have no doubt about that.”

Since joining the Soweto giants, Bimenyimana has hit the back of the net seven times and provided one assist across all competitions.

He last got his name on the scoresheet when Chiefs overpowered Lamontville Golden Arrows with a 3-1 scoreline on 31 December last year.
