Arthur Zwane has reacted to his side’s 4-0 defeat against AmaZulu, saying he believes his team’s performance wasn’t too bad.
10111 saw his side go 4-0 down at Moses Mabhida Stadium following goals by former Amakhosi players Dumisani Zuma and Ramalwe Mphahlele, as well as Junior Dion and Bongi Ntuli.
It was Chiefs’ first defeat in Durban in 24 years, extending their winless run against Usuthu to seven.
Zwane insisted it was a day to forget for his side, who had their chances to get onto the scoresheet, but also insisted they didn’t play as bad as the scoreline might makes you think.
“I think if you look at the game we played last week and you look at the game today, I think we put them on the Blackfoot,” he said on SuperSport TV after the match.
“Early in the game, maybe poor decision-making in the final third. Then we conceded. Just after conceding from a deadfall situation, I believe we could’ve defended it better.
“Then we got a penalty. I think had we converted the penalty, it would’ve been a different ball game all together.
“But then again we bonded from a deadball situation, then the mistake… and unfortunately whenever we make mistakes we get punished and when the opposition makes those mistakes we don’t take them, we don’t bury those chances.
“It’s one of those days that I’d like to forget, more especially for the players because I think they tried their level best.
“I think several times Mshini could’ve scored, Duba should’ve scored and I believe Dove as well but it just wasn’t our day.
“But the performance wasn’t bad, to be quite honest. We were in control of the game. Obviously when now we’re chasing the game, we lost a little bit of our structure but we still looked like scoring any given time.
“Though we knew they want us to come and catch us on counters. It’s one of those where we learn can from it. We learned the hard way today.”
