The family of a woman who was brutally killed by her baby daddy said they are devastated.

The family’s devastation comes after they saw the lifeless body of their sister Zinhle Khomo (35) with terrible bruises after her baby daddy killed her in his Amahlongwe home in the south of KZN on Tuesday, 17 March.

Zinhle’s sister, Ngane Khomo, said they received a phone call from a neighbour of the baby daddy who saw the tragedy.

“We rushed to the house and arrived to find that police had already arrived and had placed tape, so they couldn’t immediately see Zinhle.”

“We noticed that the baby daddy was already at the back of the van but was hiding from us,” she said.

She said when they had the opportunity to see her sister, they saw blood scattered in the room and also on the windows. Her body was on top of the bed and she wasn’t dressed. Her entire body was covered with bruises.

“Seeing Zinhle in that condition broke us apart. As her family we don’t understand how someone can be beaten and end up killed without them intervening. They need to explain to us why they allowed this to happen,” she said.

She said the neighbour that contacted them told them that she heard Zinhle crying for help and she went to the baby daddy’s room.

“She knocked at the door but he didn’t open it. She ended up opening the door but he pushed her and she fell to the ground.”

“She then decided to take their child (4) who was with them during this chaos. She said later the baby daddy came to her house and told her that he had killed Zinhle. She said he then left,” she said.

She said the baby daddy went back to his room and slept with Zinhle’s dead body until the morning.

“Police arrived and arrested him immediately and we were told about the tragedy,” she said.

She said this has left them devastated and they need help in giving Zinhle a dignified funeral.

Zinhle had two children aged 2 and 4 years old. She was unemployed and lived with her family.

The KZN cops spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Magwaza confirmed that the Umkomaas police arrested a 41-year-old suspect for murder following an incident in which a 35-year-old woman was killed.

“He appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates Court on Friday, 20 March 2020. It’s reported that the victim and the suspect were at their place of residence in Amahlongwe area when an argument broke out.”
