A 17-year-old boy was gunned down in broad daylight while walking with his gogo to the clinic in Gugulethu, Western Cape, on Wednesday morning, 6 August.
This happened weeks after he survived a brutal mass shooting.
The teenager had been recovering from gunshot wounds he suffered during a shooting on 16 July at a house in Moletsane Crescent, New Crossroads.
That incident, which shocked the local community, left three men dead, and two others injured, including the teen.
Abahlali said the boy had recently been discharged from hospital and was on his way to KTC Day Hospital for a follow-up appointment when he was ambushed.
“He was seriously injured in last month’s shooting and had spent several days in hospital,” said a community member, who spoke to the SunTeam on condition of anonymity.
“Today, his grandmother was walking him to the clinic for his check-up. We are devastated. We heard gunshots and didn’t know what hit him.”
“It seems the people who shot him knew exactly where he would be. It was an ambush. To make it worse, it happened right in front of his gogo. She must be traumatised,” said the resident.
Police have confirmed the incident and opened a murder case.
“Gugulethu police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident on Wednesday morning, 6 August 2025, in NY78, where a 17-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded,” said police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
“According to reports, the victim was on his way to hospital with his grandmother when he was shot by an unknown suspect. The victim was taken to a nearby medical facility where he was declared dead. The suspect(s) fled the scene. No arrest has been made,” he said.
The police urged anyone with information to come forward.
