Former Sizok’thola host Xolani Khumalo appears in court as he faces multiple charges.

According to Daily Sun, Xolani appeared briefly in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court in Ekurhuleni on Thursday, 3 October.

The matter was postponed to 22 October because Xolani’s lawyer, Advocate Prince Mafu, was unavailable due to family commitments.

Xolani faces charges of murder, robbery, and damage to property following a July 2023 incident in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, where Robert “Ricks” Varrie (49) was allegedly assaulted.

Varrie, a suspected drug dealer, died after Xolani and his TV crew reportedly interrogated him at his home.

He was allegedly assaulted and later left at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Speaking outside the court, a Varrie family member, who asked not to be named, said they want justice.

She said as much as they understand why the case was postponed, their concern is why only Xolani’s in the dock.

“We still believe that more people should be arrested in this case. Our brother was brutally assaulted by Xolani and the Sizok’thola crew, but up until today, some of them have never been arrested.”

She said that during the court proceedings in August, they heard that one of the suspects couldn’t be found after police went to his place of residence.

“It’s been a year since our brother died, and sadly, only one person has been arrested. We plead with the cops to ensure that whoever was responsible for our brother’s murder is brought to book.”
