An alleged visit to a sangoma by the suspect, and meticulous crime intelligence gathering, led to the discovery of the body buried in a shallow grave on a farm homestead in the Kloofeind area, outside Bloemfontein, today, Monday, 9 February 2026.

A team of police crime scene experts started arriving at the identified farm along the N8 National Road between Bloemfontein and Petrusburg from as early as 10:00.

The shallow grave was pointed out by the 34-year-old suspect, and the decomposed remains of the victim, who is currently known to be the 27-year-old girlfriend of the suspect, were exhumed.

A case docket of murder and defeating the ends of justice was opened at Parkweg Police Station.

The 34-year-old farm worker, who had reported that the victim was missing since Saturday, 17 January 2026, was placed under arrest immediately.

A missing person file was opened and registered on Friday, 30 January 2026, with the suspect having given the police a false statement at Parkweg Police Station that the deceased left the farm and visited her aunt in Pieter Swarts, Bloemspruit.

Investigation in the murder and defeating the ends of justice case commenced, and the 34-year-old suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.
