It’s alleged that the men bought booze for the woman on Saturday night, 28 February. When she wanted to leave, they allegedly attacked her.
A resident said the woman (35) was allegedly visiting her boyfriend at the Tea Estate shacks.
“Together with her boyfriend they decided to go to a local tavern. After drinking a few beers, the boyfriend decided to go to sleep, leaving his girlfriend behind,” she claimed.
She claimed the woman was then approached by some men who offered to buy her more booze.
“They sat together and other men also joined and they all drank the booze together. But when the woman felt that she had enough, she told the men that she was now going to sleep,” she claimed.
She claimed the men offered to walk her home. Instead, they took her to a nearby bush where she was allegedly raped by multiple individuals.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesman Prem Balram said on Sunday, 1 March, the victim asked a resident for help.
“A resident reportedly recognised individuals seen with the complainant the previous night.
“Residents then mobilised and proceeded to a residence in Buffelsdraai where suspects were positively identified,” he said.
He said men, aged between 25 and 29, were caught by residents.
“They were bound to a wooden structure with rope. Four other alleged suspects were not located.
“The suspects were reportedly assaulted before being taken to the crime scene, where the complainant’s underwear and T-shirt were recovered.”
“Two of the suspects are reported to be foreign nationals from Malawi,” he said.
KZN police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Magwaza confirmed the matter.
