The ball has been thrown back to Kaizer Chiefs’ court in their pursuit of SuperSport United defender Luke Fleurs.
According to Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi offered Cole Alexander to Matsatsantsa in exchange for Fleurs but insiders privy to the discussions questioned if that could be sufficient, given that Alexander is in the twilight of his career and has played at United before, compared to Fleurs, who is just starting out, as 22-year old.

With the Glamour Boys unwilling to splash the cash, the Tshwane side moved swiftly and have reportedly tied Fleurs to a three-and-half year contract.
Fleurs’ contract was set to expire at the end of the season but SuperSport have ensured that any interested suitor, including Chiefs, will have to dig deep in their pockets to get their academy graduate.
SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews told SABC Sport that in addition to Fleurs signing a new three-and-half year contract, they have inserted a local and international buy-out clause which ensures that they won’t stand in his way should they receive an offer that meets their valuation.
Matsatsantsa head coach Gavin Hunt has admitted recently to the possibility of losing Fleurs, although he stressed that he’s still part of the team.

“Ja, look he’s still part of…I’ve just seen, I read the media and I’ve seen a little stuff in the media that’s about him but he’s still part and parcel of us, he’s training,” Hunt said in an interview on Marawa Sports World Wide.
“We started on Monday (21 November), he’s training well, I spoke to him, I said to him, ‘You know, I know there’s a lot of speculation going on, just keep your head down’, you never know in life, you never know especially in football.
“Things can change but right now he’s part and parcel of us. When you work for SuperSport, these things happen all the time,” he added.

Soccer Laduma understands that Kaizer Chiefs have made Luke Fleurs a priority signing in the January transfer window but following the change in the length of his contract at United, they will need to break the bank for the Cape Town-born defender, if they really want him, because SuperSport are still open to selling him, although at the right price.
