Club legend Benedict “Tso” Vilakazi has ruled out former side Orlando Pirates as the closest challengers to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers are currently fifth in the standings and have gone three games without a win in a barren run of results.

Jose Riveiro’s side travel to the Princess Magogo Stadium to face Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership clash.

“Sundowns were not playing league matches for the past two weeks, but still are number one on the log,” Vilakazi tells KickOff.

“So, it tells you the other teams still have a long way to go to catch Sundowns.

“People may think I’m crazy or drunk as Sundowns have problems like any other team. But they try by all means to rectify their mistakes.

“Yes, Pirates should be challenging Sundowns because they’ve got international players like Richard Ofori, Innocent Maela, Olisa Ndah, Goodman Mosele, Deon Hotto, Vincent Pule, Thembinkosi Lorch and Kermit Erasmus.

“With so many players, you should be winning the league.

“Failing to surpass Sundowns these past two weeks tells you these Pirates players can’t compete for the league.

“So, there’s no way Pirates can be Sundowns’ closest challengers.

“Look at the past three games Pirates failed to win and tell me if this is the team that can challenge Sundowns.

“You can’t say a team that has struggled to score enough goals in their past four matches can challenge the defending champions.”
