An 18 year old Autistic male jumped to his death from a third floor apartment in Verulam – KZN a short while ago (Tuesday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for urgent medical assistance for the teenager.
On arrival at 15:44, RUSA Paramedics found the male on a driveway leading to a basement parking.
He sustained life threatening injuries and was declared deceased.
It was established that the male was discharged on Monday after being admitted for two (2) weeks to King George Hospital.
He was alone with his mother at their flat today while his stepfather was at work.
He informed her that he was proceeding to the toilet. She called out to him a few minutes later, but he did not respond.
She found the balcony door open and spotted her son’s body several metres below.
Healed whip marks were discovered on the deceased’s abdomen by Paramedics.
His step father informed Reaction Officers that the teenager previously resided with family at their homestead in Maphumulo – KZN.
He was whipped after his mental condition was misunderstood.
