Unknown gunmen in a vehicle approached them and opened fire.

Two of the victims succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained while inside the vehicle, while a third was found fatally wounded outside the car, a Toyota Corolla. The victims are aged between 40 and 45 years old.

The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.

When the DistrictMail and Helderberg Gazette arrived at the scene at about 21:00, police and emergency services had cordoned off the scene at the local mall.

One of the victims could be seen lying at a distance from the car in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his back, while two others were found inside the vehicle with a visibly shattered driver-side window.

The scene drew crowds from the surrounding communities as residents gathered in complete shock and disbelief at what had happened.

Police have since opened a triple murder docket, launched an investigation and begun a manhunt for the suspects.
