A family from Sunward Park in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, mourned the passing of their Chihuahua, Boy, which died on 24 April.
Sophie Kgosi-Mofokeng, a mother of two girls, said Boy was like her last-born and a family member.
She said Boy (14) was diagnosed with cancer three months ago.
“He had to undergo an operation two weeks ago, which was successful. He was admitted for three days. He was discharged and was doing well. I booked him for a check-up on Friday, 25 April, to remove stitches,” said Sophie.
Sadly, Boy died peacefully on April.
“He was okay in the morning, walking around, but we later realised he was quiet.
“We searched for him and found him sleeping peacefully. Unfortunately, the kind of operation he underwent was major,” she said.
Sophie said Boy was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer, and it seemed to have spread to other organs.
“Boy was my last-boy and close to my daughters. He was like one of my kids. They’re shaken. They had to stay with my parents as I’m also emotional and unable to cope.
“It’s a sad day for us. We had hoped the surgery would work and he would recover.”
Sophie said Boy was cremated at Park Vet Hospital in Sunward Park in Boksburg on Friday, 25 April.
“We’re hoping they’ll give us the ashes, which we will take for the funeral on Monday, 28 April.”
“We’ll have a short memorial service and a little official funeral just for blessings and a send-off for Boy. His ashes will be buried in the garden.
“We will always cherish special memories we had with Boy. We celebrated his birthday by bringing him cake and gifts, taking videos and sang for him.
“We felt sad when we left him at the dog hotel when we went on holiday,” said Sophie.
Sophie said Boy, who was on medical aid, was a stylish dog.
“We bought him clothes like summer T-shirts, and he had a beautiful winter jacket collection. He was always wearing beautiful clothes,” she said.
