AmaZulu have backtracked on their decision to sign former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Virgil Vries.
Usuthu were initially closing in on the signing of the former Chiefs and Maritzburg goalkeeper earlier month.
However, they will not be signing him anymore after Brandon Truter, who brought him in for assessment, left the club.
The player was then told not to come to training anymore and Vries, 31, has also not been seen at training since Truter left on 6 October.
Vries was training with the Usuthu for some time, having been released by Swallows FC during last season.
He arrived to be assessed at the same time when AmaZulu announced the signing Sibusiso Mabiliso last month, with the latter seeing his contract terminated by Chiefs, joining as a free agent.
According to Usuthu coach Truter then, if Vries didn’t arrive in the side with an injury, he would have long been signed, as the coach rated him highly to provide a cover in the team in case Veli Mothwa gets injured.
Vries was going to be reunited with his former coach Truter after they worked together at Swallows, when the Dube Birds gained DStv Premiership promotion in the 2019/20 season by winning the National First Division.
The 31-year-old featured in 25 league matches on the club’s route to gain promotion, but new coach Romain Folz is seemingly not keen on the shot stopper, who played for Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United, Baroka Chiefs and Swallows in South Africa’s top flight.
