Mamelodi Sundowns technical team will be leaving the country for Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup which kicks off on 20 November.

This was confirmed by head coach Rhulani Mokwena to SABC Sport, adding that their trip to Qatar is work-related as they want to equip themselves with knowledge.

Mokwena expects an interesting tournament that will be full of tactics, and he believes the Sundowns technical team can learn a thing or two.

Sundowns have looked somewhat rejuvenated and rampant since Mokwena’s appointment as head coach, and Manqoba Mngqithi’s demotion.

“It’s going to be interesting in a tournament like this to see if teams are going to be able to maintain or sustain pressing actions, counter-pressing,” said Mokwena.

“The growth of rest defence now is something that you will see predominantly and I also see that the game has gone back to a two-striker formation, if you can call it that.”

“In the past, you had Dwight Yoke and Andrew Cole, so I think you will see a lot more teams playing with two central strikers, those are the two major changes you will find in this World Cup,” added Mokwena.
