It has been revealed by the Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou that the club is no longer selling their players as they are now focusing on the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
According to iDiski times, Kaizer Chiefs will find it hard to sign Asanele Velebayi after the Wirrors decided to shut their shop.
Spurs lost their defender Rushwin Dortley to Kaizer Chiefs during the current transfer window, and suggestions are that the club will now fully switch their attention to their opening league fixture this coming weekend, with players now been told to honour their contracts.
This means that Amakhosi could suffer another huge blow in their pursuit of exciting winger Asanele Velebayi after they saw their bid rejected by Spurs for being too low and nowhere close to Spurs’ valuation of the player.
Chiefs are yet to return with an improved bid and could lose out on one of their top targets, while Stellenbosch FC also had several bids rejected for Ashley Cupido.
Speaking to iDiski Times, Efstathiou says the club is now gearing up for the new campaign, emphasizing that focus was now top priority as they start their bid for topflight promotion.
“Shop is closed, we focus on the new season. Players have to honour their contracts.” Efstathiou said.
“We have a game this week and all our focus and energy is there, everything else is not important – the transfer window rumours.”
This website, though, understands that Spurs might still agree to sell at least one of their players should their asking prices be met.
Meanwhile, Efstathiou also made a call to broadcasters to televise matches because of the quality of football displayed as well as exposing teams to sponsorship opportunities.
“Motsepe Foundation Championship is an interesting league with a lot of quality football, the broadcasters need to take advantage of that by showing it to people,” he added.
“Televising matches will also benefit clubs on sponsorship. Teams in the MFC are struggling without sponsors. Also, it will help our people to understand how we develop a player.
“They will see where it all started not only judge the player based on Premier League stats.”
Spurs open their MFC season against University of Pretoria at Tuks Stadium on Sunday, August 25.
