Soweto residents has promised to avenge for Amantle Semane’s death.
According to Daily Sun, Residents from Orlando East have vowed to pay for the suspect’s bail and then take matters into their own, should the Protea Magistrates Court grant him bail on Friday, 1 November.
The 24-year-old suspect is accused of raping and killing six-year-old Amantle. Her body was found in a shack in the area.
Amantle’s memorial service was held at the DOCC Hall in Orlando East on Tuesday, 29 October, where speakers asked: “Where is God when it hurts?”
Speakers said they couldn’t understand how such a grown man could look at a kid and see someone to have intercourse with.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Lucy Letlojane, a family friend said: “We’re in so much pain. We’ve lost a kid, we were still expecting a lot of good things from her.”
Ward Councillor, Bongani Dlamini said the situation is challenging.
“In the days we’re living in, bad things keep happening. We can only trust in God as we pray, hoping He will put this to an end.
“To the community of Orlando, we thank you for all your efforts, you’ve shown that people stand together when such things happen.”
“From day one, you’ve been there, you stood with the family and offered help. You’ve been offering your condolences, and we thank you for that,” he said.
He thanked sponsors who offered to help with the funeral and memorial services.
“We’re pleased that we’re attending a memorial service, and the suspect is already apprehended. We’re happy he’ll pay for his deeds.”
“We’re opposing bail though in his mind he thinks he’ll get bail. He won’t see such. Yes, he has a passport, but he was here illegally. There’s no way he can get bail,” Dlamini said.
School Governing Body member, Keabetswe Phoshoko said Amantle’s life was cut short.
“To the family, God will never forsake you. Let’s remember Amantle as a source of inspiration,” Phoshoko said.
