Kaizer Chiefs product Siyabonga Ngezana has been named Defender of the Year by sports publication Fanatik.
Siyabonga Ngezana has finally got the recognition his deserves in Europe after winning a top trophy.
Since making the move from Chiefs to Romanian giants FCSB ahed of the 2023/24 campaign, Ngezana quickly settled and established his name in Romania.
The former Chiefs defender led FCSB to their first league title in nine years and months later, he helped the Romanian giants to their Super Cup.
FSCB and Ngezana then featured in the qualification rounds for the UEFA Champions League but dropped down to the Europa League.
The 27-year-old’s fine performances didn’t go unnoticed and he earned himself a place in the South African national and played a key role in qualifying for the upcoming AFCON hosted in Morocco next year.
After a fantastic first season at FCSB, he was awarded the Defender Of the Year last night, thanking everybody who played a role in his career and had high praise for FCSB chairman Gigi Becali.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity, it seems like my Christmas present came early,” Ngezana said.
“It’s very important before I leave the stage to mention the people who played a huge role in my career – first of all, I just want to say thank you God for the opportunity to stand before you and I thank my family for giving me an opportunity to come in Romania to come and express my talent.”
