The residents of Chesterville and surrounding areas in the south of Durban helped themselves to some leftover cash after a cash-in- transit robbery on N2 northbound in the Cato Manor area on Monday night, 2 February.

It’s alleged that about 15 suspects who were traveling in about four cars robbed a cash delivery truck of an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects managed to stop the cash delivery car, overpowered the security guards and robbed them of their firearms before fleeing with the money.

After the suspects escaped, residents rushed to the scene to loot some of the money that was left behind by the suspects.

They were seen pushing and shoving each other as they tried to take the leftover money. This resulted in a traffic jam, resulting in the road closing for a few hours.

KZN cops spokesman, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said cops are investigating a cash-in-transit robbery after approximately 15 suspects, travelling in at least four vehicles, a Toyota Fortuner, a silver Mercedes Benz, a silver Toyota Corolla Cross and a white open bakkie robbed a cash delivery truck of an undisclosed amount of money on the N2 northbound in the Cato Mano on Monday evening.

“The suspects managed to bring the cash delivery vehicle to a standstill, overpowered security guards and allegedly robbed them of their firearms before fleeing from the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. A manhunt for the suspects is underway,” he said.
