The daughter, who asked not to be named due to fears for her safety, said she is struggling to come to terms with the gruesome murder of her mother, Rejoice Ndlovu (64), who was allegedly stabbed to death at her home in Imbali Unit 14.
“I received a call at my rented place alerting me that my mother was not well. I packed food for her and rushed home.”
“When I arrived, there were danger tapes wrapped around the house. I couldn’t hold my emotions, ” she said.
“There was a pool of blood in her bedroom. I only saw three stab wounds — in the shoulder, neck, and back. The knife was left in my mother’s back,” she added.
The daughter said after the incident, the suspect left for Imbali Unit 15, and later returned to the scene accompanied by police.
“I am scared of him. My mom used to love him dearly. She raised him. We are not safe. I will stay with my sister at home, but if he comes back, I will move out,” she said.
The woman recalled that just a week before the tragedy, she had received a call from the same neighbour alerting her that the suspect was fighting with Ndlovu over money she had been keeping for him from his piece jobs.
“When I arrived, there were broken glasses. He had thrown a vase at my mom, but luckily it hit the wall and left a mark. He has done a lot of things, even stealing,” she said.
“My mother had been living in this area for years, and no one had ever broken into her home. He recently stole a television and a decoder. We didn’t receive the assistance that we needed.”
The daughter said she had tried to understand the suspect’s behaviour.
“I did an investigation and asked his friends what exactly is this drug that he is in love with, and they told me it’s weed, Xanax, and incika (cough syrup).”
“My aunt took him to a psychologist to check if he is not mentally challenged. The results came back saying he is okay,” she said.
