Precious Molokomme says she’s lucky to be alive after her boyfriend slit her throat with a kitchen knife when she ended their relationship.
The 25-year-old from Angelo informal settlement in Ekurhuleni survived three attempts on her life between July and November last year, including being poisoned and almost stabbed, before he finally tried to kill her on 17 November.
“He tried to poison all the food and water in my shack. Luckily, I saw the powder hadn’t fully dissolved,” said Precious.
When that failed, he came back again but this time with a knife.
Speaking to Scrolla.Africa, she said the man visited her shack claiming he had returned from his brother’s funeral.
“I later found out he made it all up to get sympathy from me,” she said.
She said he asked for food, but while inside the shack she asked him to help her find a dead rat she thought was hiding in the bed.
“He told me to check under the bed base. I felt uncomfortable and even asked if he planned to kill me, he just laughed.”
“I cut the base open and left the knife on the floor. He grabbed it, held me from behind and slit my throat,” she said.
Her landlord saved her life after he came back home to change his shoes and heard her screams.
Precious said she met her attacker on Facebook and he later moved in with her after coming from Limpopo to look for work.
Ekurhuleni council chief whip Pelisa Nkunjana visited Precious and called on young women to report abuse.
“We urge women to report abusers to the police instead of protecting them,” she said.
The man was arrested on 28 February and will appear in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on 4 April on a charge of attempted murder.
