Richards Bay FC coach Pitso Dladla felt a draw would have been a fair reflection of the game against Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs ended the match with ten players following Yusuf Maart’s first half dismissal, but rallied in the second half and saw Dillon Solomons convert from the spot for their second win of the season.
“True, we were tested defensively but look they did not score from open play. We knew the areas to mark tight. We also knew which areas to let them rotate the ball.
But at the same time, I thought we deserved something out of this game,” Dladla told SuperSport TV.
“I don’t think we deserved to lose. We could’ve got a draw, I think a draw could’ve been a fair reflection of the result,” he added.
As the match saw a huge number of possession turnovers, the Natal Rich Boyz didn’t apply an all out attacking approach but remained cautious as Dladla elaborates.
“Ja, we were cautious in attack because sometimes they would leave maybe three players not defending so that they catch you on the transition- counter-attack from defence to attack so this is why we were also cautious in attack.
“But I also believe that we created not so many chances but at least two clear-cut chances to get the goals.
I’m proud of my boys, I think we are moving ahead as a team,” Dladla said.
The penalty that resulted in the winner was won by Kgaogelo Sekgota after a foul by Sibusiso Mthethwa to which Dladla believes he wouldn’t have conceded that foul barring smart play from the former.
“To be honest, I still have to look at it. I’m scared just to comment and then you go and look at it. But with Sibusiso Mthethwa- the experience that he has got.
I don’t think he would’ve committed the penalty.
“Maybe it could’ve been the brilliance out of the Kaizer Chiefs striker -maybe to wait for him to touch him. But I still have to look at it.
I thought we were in control at that time. It’s so unfortunate for us to concede a penalty like that,” Dladla stated.
