The MTN8 semi-final first leg between Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City has been postponed to a new date on account of inclement weather in the Western Cape.
Eric Tinkler’s Citizens were due to welcome The Buccaneers at the DHL Stadium for the for first leg of the MTN8 semi-final.
However, Cape Town has been rocked by bad weather conditions that show little sign of improvement and KickOff has had it confirmed by impeccable sources that the decision has been made to postpone the match to Wednesday with a kick off time of 18:00.
The two teams were set to meet for the first time this season after having both defeated their respective quarter-final opponent to climb one step closer to clinching the trophy on offer for the 24/25 season.
The Sea Robbers needed extra to see off SuperSport United in the last eight of the cup competition, while a late Darwin Gonzalez goal from the penalty spot earned The Citizens a hard fought victory of Sekhukhune United and granted progress to the semi-final.
City head coach Tinkler said although Pirates are the defending champions, his side would play without fear.
“Obviously, it’s a big club that we’re playing against – Orlando Pirates. Obviously a team that, over the past couple of seasons, have obviously won this competition.
“Not going to be easy, but we’re going to go out there, back ourselves, play with a lot of confidence, a lot of self belief, and look to take the game to them. We’ve got to go out there play without fear.
“And so far, I think the preparation has actually been very, very good, and I think the players are actually looking forward to the opportunity to play against such a big club like Pirates.
“Won’t be easy. We know. It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be about who wants it the most.”
Meanwhile, another Western Cape outfit Stellenbosch will be travelling to Gauteng for their MTN8 semi-final first leg match against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The match is scheduled to be played at Lucas Moripe Stadium, at a kick off time of 19:00.
