Nigerian defender Olisa Ndah looks set to renew his contract at Orlando Pirates as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

According to Soccer Laduma, the Buccaneers are set to open before the end of the month over a possible new deal, despite have injury issues over the past years.

As things stand, there is no offer on the table for the 27-year-old former Akwa United defender, but Soccer Laduma understands that there is a good chance of the player being with the Buccaneers next season.

Having entered the last six months of his contract with Pirates, Ndah is eligible to sign a pre-contract if a club gives him an offer he cannot turn down.

But indications are that first preference have been given to Pirates for a new deal and options will only be considered if an agreement cannot be reached.

Ndah, who joined the Soweto giants in 2021, has returned to full training with Pirates and is just waiting for an opportunity to start playing again.

During the first half of the season, Bucs head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou preferred the central defensive partnership of Lebone Seema and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, but since the latter’s departure to Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire, the door has opened for a new combination at the heart of Pirates’ defence.

Ndah will certainly be eyeing more game time in the second half of the campaign to increase his chances of securing a new deal with the Soweto giants.

Competition at centre back is tough at Pirates, with Mpho Chabatsane recently signing from Marumo Gallants.

Thabiso Sesane is also available as an option, while captain Nkosinathi Sibisi is also determined to feature more.

All these players could have a role to play as the Buccaneers chase their first league title since 2012.
