Le Havre has just backtracked their initial request to sign Percy Tau, Opening up the door for Orlando Pirates who now lead the way.

Amidst rumours linking Percy Tau with a possible departure from Al Ahly, Pirates placed an official request for the Lion of Judah.

They looked set to miss out to French Ligue 2 side, Le Havre. However, they have just backtracked their request, opening up the door for the Bucs

Pirates have not given up on bringing Tau to Soweto. With Le Havre having pulled out, the Bucs remain one of the frontrunners for Tau’s signature.

They are the only team in the PSL to make an official bid to loan Tau and this is his country of birth. A new challenge and a fresh new opportunity is just what Tau needs after having battled with a season of disruptions and delays.

Tau has had to contend with pressure from the Egyptian media, even more so since Pitso Mosimane parted ways with Al Ahly.

However, that’s not all, he has dealt with continuous injury issues that have disrupted any momentum he has tried to build. The only obstacle in Pirates’ way now is the financial cost of bringing Tau to Soweto.

This is something the club is well aware of which is why they opted to base their negotiations around a loan, in order to afford Tau and still please Al Ahly.

The Egyptian giants still have Tau contracted to them until June 2024. Meaning, that a loan option is far more realistic than a long-term deal.

Any club looking to sign him will have to buy him out of almost two years left in his contract as well as paying close to R50 MILLION, according to Transfermarkt.

The Buccaneers placed an official request to loan Tau with an option to sign him permanently.

“The South African team Orlando Pirates has requested the services of Percy Tau from Al Ahly on loan, with a clause in place at the end of the season that allows the club to sign him permanently if he performs well,” Fathallah Zidane reported on ONTime Sports.

Therefore, the good news for Bucs fans is that they are happy to let him go, having finally made this decision should the loan offer match their expectations.

“Al-Ahly are open to the departure of Percy Tau, but there’s no thought to terminate the contract with the player, especially since the deal cost the club a lot of money to sign him from Brighton,” he added.

The race for Tau’s signature is RED-HOT with Amakhosi fans urging Arthur Zwane and Chiefs to sign Tau while he has also been linked with the likes of Anderlecht and Royal Antwerp.
