Orlando Pirates assistant coach Sergio Almenara says the technical team were not happy with their side’s performance despite beating Maritzburg United 2-1 on Friday.
The Buccaneers moved into third place on the log ahead of next week’s Soweto Derby after beating the Team of Choice, thanks to goals by Monnapule Saleng and Terrence Dzvukamanja.

However, Almenara, who was on post-match duties after Jose Riveiro was suspended, says the coaches were not happy with their team’s performance, in particular in the first half.
“We had some difficulties in the first half about the positioning of our players offensively and defensively,” he told SuperSport TV.
“We tried to fix it at half-time. From there, we think the team improved in order to be more organised and from there came the possibility of the second goal from a set piece.
“The first half also, we didn’t have as many chances as we expected because of the positioning and then we had an individual action.
“In our opinion the performance is ok but we have to improve much better.”
However, Almenara admitted that Saleng’s goal just before half-time helped them to regroup at the break and carry positive momentum into the second half.
“It helped us a lot to reprise better the team with one goal in advantage,” he added.

“It’s always welcome, a goal before half-time because of the mental part. But at the same time, we were not happy.
“We were not happy with the performance cause the plan that we had for today was not working as much as we wanted.”
